What is Reiki?


Reiki (pronounced `RAY’ `KEY’) is a form of energy work that works gently and subtly to harmonize the body’s energy fields, supporting the body to heal itself. The Usui tradition originated in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century. Reiki is translated as `Universal Life Force’ (Rei) `Energy’ (ki).

Reiki is the practice of gentle laying-of-hands in which a trained Reiki Practitioner serves as a channel of energy or life force and transmits this healing energy to a client. When used in conjunction with more traditional medical therapies, Reiki can greatly reduce stress and improve the mental and physical well-being of individuals suffering from a variety of conditions.

​A Reiki Practitioner lovingly holds space for the body to drop into a deep relaxation where it can open to the universe’s natural healing energies, the flow of life. This experience can help reduce pain, anxiety, stress, increase a sense of wellbeing and, among other positive effects, deepen sleep. Reiki works both in-person and remotely.
